Who we are

Sinan Trails (“we”) runs this website and answers your enquiries. For anything about your personal data, write to hello@sinantrails.com.

Reading the site

You can read every route guide without an account. We set no cookies for visitors, run no ads and use no tracking or analytics. Fonts, photos and video come from our own site, not from Google or other services.

Like every website, our host, Cloudflare, sees technical details of each visit (your IP address, browser, the page you asked for) to deliver the page and keep the site safe from abuse. We don’t keep these details ourselves.

When you ask about a trek

The form on Plan a trek sends us:

  • what you choose: the trek, the month or dates, how many of you, how fit you feel, and whether you’d like a quiet trek or the premium version;
  • what you tell us: your name and email, and if you want, your passport country, a WhatsApp number and a message;
  • three things the site adds: the page you came from, a partner’s code if you followed a link from one of our partners, and the country your request came from (Cloudflare estimates it from your IP address; we don’t store the address).

Why: to reply to you and plan your trek. That is a step you ask us to take before any booking (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). The page, partner code and country tell us which ways of finding us work, which is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Where it is kept: in our enquiry database at Cloudflare, stored in Western Europe. A copy of each new enquiry is emailed to our team’s inbox, which is hosted by Google. Both act on our instructions under their data processing terms.

Emails you send to hello@sinantrails.com are handled the same way.

If you book a trek

To arrange your trek we share what is needed (names, passport details for permits and hotels, dates, dietary and health notes you give us) with our licensed partner agency and your guide in China. This is a transfer outside the EU, made because it is necessary to carry out the trek you asked for (GDPR Art. 49(1)(b)). We never sell your data or share it for marketing.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that don’t become a trek: deleted 24 months after we were last in touch.
  • Treks you book: as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep the records.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, send it to you in a common format, or stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interest. Write to hello@sinantrails.com; we reply within a month, usually much sooner. You can also complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.

Signing in

Only our own team signs in to this site. Signing in sets one cookie that keeps them signed in for 30 days; it is needed for the sign-in to work and is not used for anything else.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we update this page and the date at the top.
