These terms cover your use of sinantrails.com. Booking a guided trek is covered separately, by the written offer you accept (see below).

The free route guides

Every route guide is free to read and free to use. We re-check closures and rules before every season, but mountains, deserts and rules change faster than any website:

  • Trails close. Before you go, read the trail status and any official notice on site. If an official notice closes a trail, it is closed, whatever a guide says.
  • You are responsible for your own trip when you hike on your own: your fitness, gear, water, permits, travel insurance and the decisions you make on the trail.
  • Distances, times and heights are our best figures. Until our guides have walked a route themselves, they come from other hikers’ records. Treat them as a guide, not a promise.

We are not liable for loss or injury that comes from hiking on your own with our free guides, except where the law doesn’t allow that to be excluded.

Prices and enquiries

  • Prices are per person, in euros, and show what a trek costs for the group size listed. They are a guide until we confirm them in a written offer for your dates.
  • Sending an enquiry is not a booking, and costs nothing. This site never takes payment.
  • A trek is booked only when you accept our written offer. That offer sets out the price, what’s included, payment, cancellation and insurance.
  • Treks in China are run with licensed local partner agencies and guides.
  • Hotels on a set date: until the date is confirmed we hold rooms on rates we can still cancel free; once it is confirmed, we book them for good. If a hotel named on the trek page is full or closes, we book the backup named on its card, of the same standard, and tell you in writing.

Where the law gives you rights as a traveller (for example the EU rules on package travel), nothing here takes them away.

Our promise is something we give on top of your legal rights, not instead of them.

The text on this site is ours. You are welcome to link to any page and quote a few lines with a link back; please don’t copy whole guides. Photos belong to their authors and are used with permission or under their licence; see photo credits.
